Aquatic Weed Control

While weed does have a number of beneficial attributes, there are times where the growth becomes too much for the waterbody. One of the benefits of weed is that it produces oxygen throughout the day, however during the night the weed absorbs the oxygen which can potentially create dangerously low oxygen levels within the water.  Another issue with having too much weed is that it can lead to reduced catches as it makes it increasingly difficult to present baits effectively. Over a prolonged period of time large amounts of dying weed can contribute to water quality problems and high silt levels.
We can offer a variety of services to help prevent and manage weed growth as well as carrying out larger scale weed removal. In order to best tailor our services to your needs we would discuss the problem with you and try to gather as much information as possible about what type of weed is affecting your water and information about your water generally such as the size and depth in order to formulate the best treatment plan for you.
Preventative measures and measures to slow down the weed growth that we can offer include the use of aeration equipment to improve the oxygen levels, the addition of pond dye to your water and/or barley straw rafts and barley straw extract. In addition, the introduction of fish or other plants can help control weed growth as well as light, environmentally friendly chemicals and we can advise on the best method to use for your particular case.
For weed removal we use larger scale weed rakes. This process involves floating a weed rake over submerged weed beds, then lowering in the weed rake and pulling it across the target area to pull the weed from the roots.
Lakes suffering from the growth of algae and duckweed require a specific form of treatment. We have a purpose made boom which we can use if your water suffers from this and it has proven highly effective in removing algae and duckweed.
